November 6, 2024: Predictions

What could lie ahead, in no particular order.

1. All Federal charges against Donald Trump will be dropped.

2. All January 6 rioters will be given full pardons.

3. Building on what President Biden has done, the economy will continue to improve and Trump will take all of the credit.

4. Taxes on wealthy individuals and corporations will be slashed, exploding budget deficits.

5. Trump will appoint at least two more Supreme Court Justices, as Thomas and Alito retire. Eileen Cannon will be given serious consideration, if not already appointed Attorney General.

6. As unqualified political appointees supplant career employees with expertise in their fields, federal government programs, like Social Security and Medicare, will fall into disarray. Disgruntled Americans will blame “the bureaucrats” but not the Trump appointees who will be praised for their heroic efforts to “fix the government.”

7. Trump will impose tariffs on selected products—just as Biden did.

8. Trump’s “mass deportation” plans will prove too costly, so they will be more limited than promised but also more violent and chaotic.

9. In addition to the National Guard and local police, the Proud Boys and similar self-styled militia will be deputized in some places to help carry out the raids, round-ups, and deportations.

10. Hastily constructed internment camps will be a living Hell for those held there. Construction will be done by private sector companies. Lowest bids will win the contracts.

11. People trying to cross the border without proper documentation will be shot on sight. This will be touted as a “deterrent” to “illegals.”

12. With anti-vaxxer and conspiracy theorist Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. in charge of health policy, polio will make a come-back, as will other communicable diseases.

13. Some cities will stop adding fluoride to their water supplies. It will be a boon for dentists.

14. School voucher movements will spread like wildfire and tax dollars will be used to subsidize private/religious schools. Funding for public schools will decline accordingly.

15. Unions will be required to send members annual renewal notices and will no longer be allowed to automatically deduct dues from member paychecks. The administrative costs of renewal efforts will be a substantial burden.

16. The Department of Education will be dismantled.

17. Federal government employees will be subjected to “loyalty oaths” and will be in danger of losing their jobs if they refuse to comply.

18. Many Federal jobs will be farmed out to red states, decimating the economy in Washington DC and its suburbs.

19. State and local gun restrictions will be overturned, including limits on those found guilty of domestic violence and/or stalking.

20. Trump will pressure Ukraine into surrendering. Within a few months, Putin will attempt to annex Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania.

21. Authoritarians will continue gaining ground in many countries around the world.

22. Nuclear power will make a comeback, with the power generated going directly to AI and crypto businesses.

23. Crypto will be completely deregulated.

24. Domestic violence will rise and defendants, citing Christian ideology, will argue that their partners were not sufficiently submissive. Courts will side with the defendants.

25. American oligarchs will expand their influence by pouring huge sums into preferred candidates’ coffers.

26. All restraints on coordination between individual political campaigns and moneyed Super PACS will disappear.

27. Books critical of American history and/or the Founding Fathers will be banned from schools across the country. Books emphasizing Christian Nationalist history will be promoted and widely distributed.

28. Hate crimes will rise significantly.

29. For-profit prisons will have record earnings.

30. Israel and the United States military will cooperate to destroy Iran’s nuclear weapons facilities.

31. Prior to Trump’s inauguration, Israel will be completely unrestrained in its war with Hamas. Ultimately, Israel will occupy the devastated landscape of Gaza and will demand that all or most of the land won in the 1967 war be returned.

32. Once Trump is sworn in, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will finally accept the terms of the ceasefire the Biden Administration had long sought. Trump will be nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

33. The United States will again abandon all efforts to combat climate change. References to climate change will be scrubbed from all official government documents, except for those that deem it a “hoax.”

34. China will invade Taiwan. The U.S. will not defend it.

35. North Korea will continue development of nuclear weapons and the missiles needed to deliver them.

36. Trump will be pressured to endorse a nationwide ban on abortion. Republicans will move to eliminate the filibuster in order to pass the ban. Women in large swaths of the country will lose access to reproductive health care, as many already have.

37. Subsidies for coverage under Obamacare will be slashed, leaving millions of Americans uninsured. Young adults will be stripped of coverage under their parent’s insurance plan. Insurers will be able to deny coverage for “preexisting conditions” or will shift significant costs to consumers.

38. Market-based “insurance” will offer consumers very low prices…but very little coverage. People will believe it is the “better, cheaper” insurance Trump claimed to have ready to go in his first term…until they have to use it.

39. The disparity between the very wealthy and the middle class, working class, working poor, and indigent will grow. Many more children will live in poverty.

40. Congressional hearings, akin to Soviet-style “show trials,” will target Trump’s political enemies.

41. The IRS will harass Trump enemies through years-long “investigations” into their tax returns.

42. Transgendered people will be barred from participating in sports across the country.

43. Gay marriage will be attacked. If unable to repeal it, Republicans will chip away by designating gay marriages as “lesser” than other marriages, weakening marital rights and protections for gay couples. The changes will be retroactive, applying to all gay marriages.

44. Homelessness will soar and people living on the street will be harassed and pushed from place to place, but no long-term solutions will be found, or even attempted.

45. Food and housing insecurity will grow among the poor and working classes and will bleed into the middle class as paychecks can’t be stretched to meet monthly bills.

46. Drug and mental health services will be overwhelmed.

47. Mass transit funding will be obliterated. Funding to expand highways will grow and construction will be done by Public-Private Partnerships. There will be significant cost overruns. Bribery and graft will be fundamental aspects of winning bids.

48. The annual Defense Department budget will top $1 trillion for the first time.

49. Elon Musk’s government “efficiency” efforts will be as chaotic and haphazard as his oversight of “formerly Twitter.” He will blame the chaos on others who lack his vision and do not appreciate his brilliance.

50. Washington Post publisher Jeff Bezos will be rewarded for his loyalty/cowardice with billions in government contracts. Elon will still be wealthier.
